1. I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day
"Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
God is not dead, nor does he sleep.
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men."
2. Let There Be Light
"Let there be light!
Let it shine bright!
Piercing the darkness in dazzling white.
Hope for the hopeless was born on that night.
When God sent his son, he said let there be light."
3. O Holy Night
"Chains he shall break,
for the slave is our brother,
And in his name, all oppression shall cease."
4. Little Drummer Boy
"I played my drum for him
pa rum pa pum pum
I played my best for him
pa rum pa pum pum
rum pa pum pum
rum pa pum pum."
Okay, leave me links to your favorite Christmas songs in the comments!
Celtic Woman singing "O Holy Night" has to rank among the best I know. And the lyrics you cite, so powerful and so easily overlooked. I was just enjoying this song the other day while working.
ReplyDeleteLove that song. ^_^
ReplyDeleteAnother favorite that comes to mind: John Michael Talbot did a Christmas album entitled "The Birth of Jesus" quite a few years ago (maybe 20?) that has some excellent numbers on it, the best one probably being his rendition of "O Come O Come Emmanuel". I can't find it on line, but if you ever get a chance to acquire this album, I'd say it is definitely worth it.
ReplyDeleteThis year my Christmas music purchase was Hayley Westenra's (formerly of Celtic Woman) album Winter Magic, which has several nice songs on it. My favorite is "Peace Shall Come" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-KfMrbM6cI)
I also like Enya's Christmas(?) album: "And Winter Came." There are some nice pieces on that one.
Saw your post on learning Chinese in Chinese on Reddit today (having just barely started studying it myself), and got hooked into browsing through more. :)
ReplyDeleteHere's a couple traditional Christmas songs I like which you probably haven't heard before:
