—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Jerry: "He said Jimmy was nice and that other kid, Hubert, was selfish"—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Jimmy: "Who's gonna name their kid Hubert????" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
Oh no, Bob & Larry just showed up, the gig is up #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Jimmy: "We've been wanting to host a show ever since Dave & the Giant Pickle" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
"The Englishman who went up a hill and came down with all the bananas" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Wowwww it's the tall scallion, playing the Englishman. with a monocle.—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
#PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
He has all the bananas. SO SELFISH. But he can't eat them because "you can't eat bananas without strawberries" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Now here's Jerry Gourd, the Swede who went up a hill and came down with all the strawberries. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
"You can't eat strawberries without bananas." #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
look at the 2 of them standing there with their stacks of fruit #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales pic.twitter.com/ePvYW1Zx6N—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
They each ask the other if they can have 1 of their fruits. They both say no. Therefore neither of them can eat anything. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
The end. Now Jimmy & Jerry's attempt to sum up & get a verse from QWERTY. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Oh no, QWERTY is turned off! #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
oh look, a verse #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales pic.twitter.com/9AC9zPsnmz—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
i'm going to have a lot to say about Jimmy & Jerry's attempt at hosting a show #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Bob runs in like "no no no" and says they have to redo the show #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Now Bob is telling the story of King George & the ducky—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
"Unlike other kings, this king spent most of his time in the bathtub." #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
Larry plays King George, Bob plays his advisor Lewis #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
King George refuses to get out of the bathtub & do his job. Even though the kingdom is engulfed in The Great Pie War. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Here's King George and his ducky #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales pic.twitter.com/KrrCCgBh79—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Okay so the issue is that King George isn't handling any of his king responsibilities. Just wants to spend all his time in the bathtub. And that's what they're calling "selfish". #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
lollll he has one of those binocular things like at Niagara Falls #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales pic.twitter.com/q5YupSxd9o—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
@pnumber628 Don't forget: the duckie is Bathsheba, the one wronged is *only* Junior, and it was all made better by.....(won't spoil it.) pic.twitter.com/M0LSm7LnMK—Christian Janeway (@XianJaneway) 2018-02-21
lollllllllllllllllll "give me a quarter" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
He sees Junior in a little bathtub, with his own ducky. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
King is so creepy, looking at people in their bathtubs #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
King George decides he MUST HAVE Junior's duck #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Bob: "but sir, if i could just jog your memory, you already have quite a few duckies."—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
King: "Those are yesterday's duckies." #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
King keeps ordering his assistant (Lewis, played by Bob) to go and get Junior's duck #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Junior's character is named Thomas #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
At this moment, a general shows up.—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
"As Lewis has told you, the pie war has grown ferocious. We need more men at the front." #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
King sends Thomas (Junior's character) to the war.—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
"Put Thomas at the front of the battle. Then have everyone else step back." #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
Hey hey hey check this out. The narrator says Lewis didn't want Thomas to get hurt, but he also didn't want King George to send him to the war, so he did what the king said.—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
KINDA LIKE BATHSHEBA, HUH? #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
Now it's time for silly songs with Larry—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21

Larry: "Just.... watching a little tv, Bob"
".... maybe you should read a book"
#PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
hey don't shame Larry for his interest in manatee soap operas #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Back to the story of King George. King & Lewis are sneaking around in the night to steal Thomas's duck. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Lewis: ".......... It looks just like your other duckies."—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
King: "WHAT? Hold your tongue infidel! This is the most perfect ducky the world has ever known." #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
Suddenly the general shows up with Thomas. General tells the story of how Thomas singlehandedly stopped the invasion. He's a war hero! #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Thomas has some pretty bad PTSD #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Thomas leaves, and the King is like "FINALLY i can take my bath" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Lewis is like "i feel terrible" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Pa Grape shows up—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
"You remember me. I am Melvin, that slightly odd wise man who shows up every so often to tell you things." #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
oh my god he brought a flannelgraph #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales pic.twitter.com/byk23LWvo7—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Melvin tells a story abt a rich man & a poor man. Poor man only has 1 sheep. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Rich man takes the poor man's lamb to feed his guest.—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
King George is outraged! "Is this a true story??!!!!" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
"For his cruelty, he will spend the rest of his days locked in my dungeon!!!! Who is he?" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
How does King George suddenly have empathy for the poor man in this story? #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Melvin: "God wants us to think of others foist." #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
King George decides to let Thomas have a bath in the royal tub. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21

HEY KINDA LIKE BATHSHEBA, HUH? #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales
There are no women in this story #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
The end. We're back with Bob & Larry on the counter. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Ah, QWERTY is on now. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Bob explains that King George learned being selfish hurts the people around us #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
lolololol look who wants to host the next show #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales pic.twitter.com/5ondKJ6KQB—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
All right that's the end of VeggieTales "King George and the Ducky." Let's discuss. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
First of all there was Jimmy & Jerry's attempt to host the show. That was very..... like, hit-you-over-the-head-with-"don't-be-selfish", no nuance at all #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
like is it a parody of some Christian kids' tv shows that beat you over the head with their "message"? #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Why was that included? To show Bob's personality clash with Jimmy Gourd? #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Maybe to show that other characters can host the show, not just Bob & Larry? (This will be important in future episodes) #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Kind of interesting how the lesson was "don't be selfish" & Bob was kind of being a control freak about hosting the show. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Like Bob apologized to the viewers for Jimmy & Jerry's hosting, right in front of Jimmy & Jerry. He pretty openly says they didn't do a good job. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
As for the story itself, abt the Englishman & Swede who wouldn't share their fruit & therefore neither of them could eat- wasn't really that good bc it wasn't realistic. But that was probably the intention & why Bob thought it wasn't a good story. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Anyway let's talk abt the story of King George and the ducky #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
So it's based on the story of David & Bathsheba. And....... ugh. David raped Bathsheba. I don't really think you can clean that up for a kids' show & have it go well. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Like i feel like i can't just judge the King George story on its own- can't ignore how it was based on the story of Bathsheba #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
I NEVER heard ANYONE say the story of David & Bathsheba was about rape- not until i started reading feminist blogs, in college #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
—Superenby! (@MorganL666) 2018-02-21
Before that, whenever i heard someone teaching on David & Bathsheba, it was about how David should have "resisted temptation" & so we shouldn't be alone w our romantic partner #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
I even remember a bible i had that had this little blurb about how Bathsheba might have claimed she was "only following orders" but that doesn't make it okay- she still sinned #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Yeah, most of the teaching i heard abt David & Bathsheba was focused on David's sin. But there was always a bit of "why didn't Bathsheba say no? she sinned too" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
@pnumber628 The versions of the story I heard treated Bathsheba like an object. David's sin, in those accounts, was that he committed adultery with Uriah's wife & sent Uriah to die, NOT that he forced himself on Bathsheba. Her personhood was completely erased.—Ahab (@Ahab_Of_Gilead) 2018-02-21
I think it says a lot abt what Christians think rape is, that when i first heard someone say David raped Bathsheba, i didn't believe them. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
@pnumber628 That story is one of those that I just can't get over. In the end god directly struck her child sick, it suffered for 7 days and dies, yet david was forgiven and blessed. I feel a sense of outrage every time I hear it now.—ameliorate_d (@ameliorate_d) 2018-02-21
@ameliorate_d @pnumber628 I know, right? God punished an innocent child for a crime that the child's father committed? I see no justice in that.—Ahab (@Ahab_Of_Gilead) 2018-02-21
@ameliorate_d oh wow yes i totally forgot about the part where the child died—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
ugh this is terrible
@ameliorate_d and then church ppl are like "isn't it great how god can use imperfect ppl? look at david, he committed adultery [sic] & murder but he was still a man after god's own heart, that's such good news for us bc we're all sinners"—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Anyway maybe let's get back to VeggieTales. I think the story of David & Bathsheba isn't really appropriate for kids, & you lose the whole point if you try to "clean it up" & not mention sex #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
I thought it was VERY VERY INTERESTING how at least twice in the King George story, it was mentioned that the king made Lewis do things he didn't want to do, & it was wrong for the king to do that #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Lewis is sort of the Bathsheba character here... #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
All right let's talk about the story of King George though, and the message they're trying to teach kids #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
So, King George's problem was he only thought abt himself. He didn't really think abt how his actions affect other ppl. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
And King George didn't care abt his responsibilities as king. He thought being king meant he can just have whatever he wants. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Somehow, Melvin's story about the rich man & poor man & sheep inspires King George to feel empathy. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Thomas (the Uriah character) didn't die, he just developed some kind of PTSD from the pie war. Which somehow is completely cured by experiencing the king's bathtub. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
I am very NOT OKAY with how easily Thomas forgave the king. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
The narrator just says King George confessed to Thomas what he had done, and Thomas thought it over a bit and forgave him. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Like, first of all, do you think King George is telling him the whole truth when he "confesses"? Don't you think he's going to spin it to make himself look slightly less bad? #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
And shouldn't there be some kind of punishment, or a new law put into place so a king can't abuse their power like that? #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
I'm very not okay with how easy forgiveness is in the VeggieTales universe #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Like, does King George *get* how he abused his power as king, and how bad that was? #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
All right let's move on to the lesson at the end. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
So the lesson is don't be selfish. And King George's behavior in the story was that he only thought abt himself & didn't think abt how his actions affected other ppl #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
I think the teaching about "selfishness" needs to also include the fact that your needs & desires MATTER #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
"selfishness" is bad when you treat ppl badly because of it. but it is NOT inherently bad to prioritize your own happiness over others'. Depending on the situation and your relationship. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
For example: You buy Christmas presents for your own family. You don't buy Christmas presents for EVERYBODY ELSE'S family. Sometimes maybe you donate money so poor kids can have presents too- that's a good thing. But you're not able to buy EVERY poor kid a gift. Which is fine.—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Like, everybody prioritizes themself & their close family & friends over all the random strangers in the world. We NEED to do that. It's not possible to have relationships w ppl otherwise. So let's stop acting like that's "selfish" & bad. #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
Anyway I just wish i would have learned about that as a kid, instead of lesson after lesson about "don't be selfish" & "put others first" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
I wish somebody at church would have taught me that my own emotions/needs/desires matter, & i shouldn't just automatically give things up in order to "put others first" #PerfectNumberWatchesVeggieTales—Perfect Number (@pnumber628) 2018-02-21
