Dear Christians: Here's how to ACTUALLY love transgender people

"Transgender rights are human rights." Image source.
On October 5, the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors held a conference called "Transgender Confusion and Transformational Christianity" [huge TRIGGER WARNING for nasty trans-hate at that link]. Jo, a non-binary trans person, went to the conference and tweeted all about it. (Poor Jo.)

And basically, the whole thing was about how transgender people are wrong about their identity, and conservative Christians know that transgender isn't even a real thing, and Christians should love transgender people by explaining to them why they are wrong about their own identity. Oh yeah, and also by spreading lies about them, and discriminating against them.

Yeah, no. That's not what love is.

If you want to actually love transgender people, you need to LISTEN to them and BELIEVE them when they talk about their own experiences, their own identity, their own needs.

(Maybe you're not convinced that you need to believe them. Okay, yeah, that's where I was, a few years ago. I was very much in the "this is wrong, but Christians should still love them- hate the sin, love the sinner" camp. If that's where you are, you gotta at least believe that love means listening to people instead of just buying into stereotypes about them. So please, listen and have a heart. God gave you a conscience, and I hope that you can hear God's voice in the voices of transgender people.)

So, to that end, I've collected a ton of links and resources created by, or heavily featuring the voices of, actual transgender people.
